Nothing predestined Marie and Amaury Vaganay to become winemakers in Saumur in 2021. After seven years in construction and IT project management in the North, they settled in Vaudelnay with their four children to make a living from their land.
Noctua takes its name from the Latin for the Little Owl, Athene Noctua, as a pair nests in the beams of the bottle cellar (they have a keen eye - and good taste).
The small estate, initially 4.5 hectares and now 7.5 hectares, is undergoing conversion to organic farming. Marie and Amaury are committed to caring for their plots, sometimes entirely by hand. The soils are alive, as evidenced by the abundance of earthworms tirelessly aerating the ground and the birds nesting there.
The reds grow on clay-sandy silt, a deep soil that allows the vines to anchor themselves, absorb essential trace elements, and draw water. The whites thrive on a hillside of schist and sandstone, a well-ventilated, sunlit slope where volcanic rock—rhyolite from the granite group—can also be found.

Sparkling Wine - Pet'Nat' - Brut Nature
Grape: 100% chenin blanc
Soil: Southeast/Northwest-facing schist hillside with volcanic rock presence.
Vinification: Fermented and aged without added sulfites – Aged for 6 months in bottles – 15mg of sulfites added at disgorgement.
Tasting Notes: A refined wine with delicate bubbles, beautiful tension, and an enticing fruit profile.
This is a Brut Nature, or zero-dosage wine, meaning no sugar is added.
